Biography & Pure profile

Julie studied the violin and piano at the Royal Academy of Music where she gained the LRAM teaching diploma, Division 5 with distinction & DIPRAM Recital Performance Diploma. In her final year she was appointed as leader of the chamber orchestra and opera orchestra. Whilst studying at the Academy she won many awards for both solo and chamber music performances including the JB McEwan prize and Manila de Verona scholarship.

Julie’s professional career has included permanent positions with the Royal Northern Sinfonia as sub principal violin, the BBC Symphony Orchestra violin section, and freelance work with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Bournemouth Sinfonietta, Glyndebourne Touring opera, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, London Virtuosi and Philharmonia Orchestra.

She has performed in major concert halls worldwide including the Barbican, Royal Festival Hall, Palau Della Musica Barcelona, Teatro alla Scala Milan, Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentina, Carnegie Hall & Lincoln Centre New York, Suntory Hall Tokyo, Musikverein Vienna, Berliner Philharmonie, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall Moscow and Grand Hall of St Petersburg Philharmonie.

Julie feels privileged to have worked with renowned musicians including Sir Neville Marriner, Richard Hickox, Gennadi Rozhdeshvensky, Sir John Pritchard, Pierre Boulez, Sir Andrew Davis, Oliver Knussen, Juri Belohavek, Essa Pekka Salonan, Thomas Ades, John Adams, Isaac Stern, Igor Oistrakh, Vladimir Spivakov, Dmitri Sitkovetsky, Victoria Mullova, James Ehne, Gil Shaham & Nigel Kennedy.

Julie performs regularly as a chamber musician and with her violin & piano duo. Her recent performances have included the Beethoven Septet, Schubert Octet and Ravel Introduction & Allegro.

Julie is an experienced and dedicated teacher. Her teaching experience spans a number of years and has included posts in London in leading independent and grammar schools.

Julie moved to Taunton in 2021, where she holds teaching posts at Guildhall Young Artists Taunton and Taunton Music Centre and runs a private practice.

Julie aims to inspire her pupils with her passion and commitment for the violin; she focuses on developing a good technical foundation whilst at the same time encouraging musical awareness and enabling them to reach their full musical potential.
