Inclusive Practice and Additional Arrangements
Inclusive Practice for Auditions and Interviews
Our aim is to provide an inclusive, welcoming audition/interview environment and to cater for all types of learners by accommodating their needs wherever practicable. For all candidates to feel comfortable and to perform at their best, panels will:
•provide clear, concise instructions and questions, and to repeat them if required;
•allow time for candidates to process and respond to questions;
•be ready to re-phrase questions for clarity and better comprehension;
•speak slowly and clearly, as best they can.
Printed materials
All printed materials supplied by the school (such as sight-reading tasks for music, if applicable):
- Will be provided on off-white paper and in large print
- Coloured overlays will be made available on request
- Candidates are invited to bring their own overlays or assistive technologies to read printed materials.
If you are unsure whether you will be required to access printed materials produced by the school as part of your audition/interview, please contact disability@gsmd.ac.uk to request details about the process for your department/discipline.
Please note there are no sight-reading requirements for the Acting programme or Production Arts programmes.
Additional Arrangements
Please note: all additional arrangements and/or access requirements must be requested a minimum of 2 weeks before an audition or interview.
Applicants can request additional arrangements beyond our inclusive practice guidelines or state any access requirements on their application form. Once the form is submitted, this information will be passed onto the Senior Disability and Welfare Advisor who will be in contact via email to confirm arrangements.
Applicants can also contact disability@gsmd.ac.uk to discuss or request additional arrangements and access requirements. Please note, these must be requested a minimum of 2 weeks before an audition or interview.
Music Auditions - Disability and Access Information
Most music auditions/interviews take place in our Silk Street building, but please check the location of your audition when details are sent to you by email.
The Silk Street building is accessible by a gentle slope from the main street. On entering the building turn right and walk past the main ‘reception desk’ – you should see a large ‘auditions’ banner and a desk with a blue table cover. Please go to the desk and check in with the stewards stationed there.
The stewards will look after you once you have checked in at the front desk.
They will direct you around the building and will escort you to your warm-up room and audition/interview room at the correct time.
Once the audition process is complete, the steward will direct you back to the foyer area (where you arrived).
If you have any accessibility needs, such as requiring lift access, please contact disability@gsmd.ac.uk at least two weeks before your audition, so that we can ensure your audition takes place on a floor which is accessible by lift.
If you are sight or hearing impaired and may need a guide to escort you personally, please get in touch at your earliest convenience so that we can arrange this for you.
If you are under the age of 18, you are welcome to bring a parent/guardian with you, but please note that they cannot access the warm-up and audition spaces – they may sit in the foyer or the café, which is accessed from the foyer on the Lower Ground floor.
There is a water fountain in the Lower Ground café area, to the right hand side of the counter.
As the Silk Street foyer space can become busy during term time, candidates should be aware that it can become quite noisy at times. If you arrive early and require a quiet space, there as some spaces nearby that we recommend, as listed under our ‘accessibility and surrounding spaces’ section below.
Acting Auditions and Production Arts Interviews – Disability and Access Information
Acting auditions and Production Arts interviews take place in Milton Court; however, please check the location of your audition/interview when details are sent to you by email.
Milton Court is accessible at street level. Please report to the Stage Door to register.
Stewards will be on hand during the audition/interview; they will direct you around the building and escort you to your waiting room and audition/interview room.
Once the audition process is complete, you will be directed back to the Stage Door (where you arrived).
If you have any accessibility needs, such as requiring lift access, please contact disability@gsmd.ac.uk at least two weeks before your audition. If you are sight or hearing impaired and may need a guide to escort you personally, please get in touch at your earliest convenience so that we can arrange this for you.
If you are under the age of 18, you may arrive with a parent/guardian; however, please note that they cannot stay and access the waiting room and audition/interview spaces.
Water fountains are located on most levels in Milton Court.
Please do not arrive before your report time. If you do arrive early and require a quiet space, there are some spaces nearby that we recommend, as listed under our ‘accessibility and surrounding spaces’ section below.

Applicant Disability and Disclosure FAQs
When completing your online application, there will be a section in which you can declare a disability/condition and enter in any relevant information.
The information disclosed on your application is only accessible to the administrative team and the Learning Support Senior Advisor.
If we deem that information about your disability needs to be shared with the audition panel to make sure that you receive a fair assessment, we will share the following information (all information will be shared and considered confidentially):
- That you have declared a disability
- Reasonable adjustments required (as established between yourself and the Learning Support Senior Advisor).
If however after carefully considering your disability we do not feel your audition/interview panel needs to know this information, we will not share it with them.
Academic staff will not be made aware of disability information unless you progress to offer-holder stage and you complete the ‘Consent to Share’ process.
