Biography
Jonathan Smith has been a lecturer in psychology at Birkbeck College, University of London since 1987, where he teaches adult students on degree and diploma courses. Before that he taught psychology for the Department of Extra-Mural Studies at London University and for the National Hospitals Speech Therapy Training school. In 1988 he completed his training as a Gestalt Psychotherapist and has since been practicing as an individual and group therapist in private practice. He also runs occasional training and introductory workshops in gestalt.
He has worked for the Guildhall School of Music & Drama since 1990, teaching on the Music Therapy course, and since 2000 when he went part time at Birkbeck, he has taught research methods for masters students at Relate and the Psychosynthesis and Education Trust. He holds an MA from Oxford University, is accredited with UKCP and is an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Since 1999 he has been playing piano and keyboards for jazz and function bands.
