About Summer Arts Camp

Summer Arts Camp: The City as a Stage invites young creatives to learn about performance through exploring urban spaces. Across five exciting days, participants will experiment with movement, sound, storytelling, drawing and visual design, working with professional artists to transform everyday spaces into sites of creativity and performance. The week finishes with a collaborative sharing event, showcasing work inspired by the pulse and energy of the city.

Who is the course for?
  • Anyone aged 9 to 11 interested in performance, music, movement, drawing and storytelling
  • No prior experience necessary—just curiosity and enthusiasm!
What can I expect?
  • Hands-on workshops in physical theatre, sound creation, spoken word, and visual storytelling. 
  • Fun, collaborative activities designed to build confidence and creativity. 
  • A final informal performance, with invited friends and family, sharing the work created throughout the week.  
Do I need anything for the course?
  • A basic, digital camera for photography session
  • Comfortable, loose clothing for movement-based activities.

About the Course Tutor

The course has been developed by Jose Martins

Jose Martins is an experienced arts producer and educator with a strong background in designing participatory arts programmes. 

He has worked extensively with the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Barbican Centre, developing innovative projects that engage young people in music, theatre, movement, and multi-disciplinary performance. His expertise in arts education, performance-making, and creative leadership allows him to design immersive, dynamic learning experiences that inspire young participants to explore their creative potential.
