Event information

Leading Dutch conductor Antony Hermus joins Guildhall Symphony Orchestra for a fascinating and fantastical evening of music.

Opening with the atmospheric eight-minute Frontispiece for orchestra by South Korean composer Unsuk Chin, the programme continues with the kaleidoscopic suite from Bartók’s pantomime opera The Miraculous Mandarin, composed 100 years earlier.

Music by Bartók’s Austrian contemporary Alexander von Zemlinsky follows with The Mermaid – an unjustly neglected, sumptuous fantasy for orchestra based on the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen.

On the conductor's podium is Antony Hermus: Chief Conductor Designate of Belgian National Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of Opera North and Principal Guest Conductor of North Netherlands Orchestra.
