Event information
Pianist Robert Levin, arguably the world’s leading classical improviser, visits Guildhall School in his annual residency as International Chair of the Centre for Creative Performance and Classical Improvisation.
An examination of JS Bach’s choice of key relationships in his larger movements reveals a systematic tonal scheme. This lecture will examine and reveal this cosmological scheme, which has far-reaching interpretive consequences and provides an architectural template for improvisation in his style.
Robert also works with Guildhall School soloists and chamber musicians in four masterclasses as part of his residency on 11 & 12 May.
Free, no tickets required
