Cast for Fury

Directed by Nicole Charles and designed by Charlie Cridlan, Fury is set in a council flat in Peckham and tells the story of Sam: a young single mum fighting to survive. The play about motherhood and class has been described as a modern retelling of the classical Greek play Medea by Euripides. Written by Phoebe Eclair-Powell, the production received its premiere in 2016 at London’s Soho Theatre. The piece was a finalist for the 2015 Verity Bargate Award and was also winner of the Soho Theatre Young Writer’s Award.

Detroit, a fresh, offbeat and timely play, explores what happens when we dare to open ourselves up to something new. New neighbours arrive in the area, leading to new friendships rapidly veering out of control. The Obie Award winning play, set in an American suburb, is written by Lisa D’Amour and directed by Charlotte Westenra.

Towers, a new production created by Ameera Conrad and the Company looks at the conflicting views of developers, architects, researchers and residents over the development of a South London estate. Directed by Conrad, the play deals with the humanity (or inhumanity) of moving in and moving out. It aims to respond to the housing crisis in London, and the phenomenon of the regeneration projects in areas that used to be social housing.

The Spring drama programme concludes with a production of Orestes, a radical reworking of Euripides’ drama in a translation by Kenneth McLeish. Directed by Charlotte Gwinner and designed by Simon Daw the play sees a brother and sister face a death sentence for the murder of their mother. Disenfranchised and without shelter, they hatch a terrible plot to alter their fate.
