About Acting Summer School for Ages 18+
This two-week course will give you an insight into actor training by exploring the fundamentals of acting in a supportive environment.
Collaborating with a blend of current Guildhall tutors and visiting industry professionals, you will take part in a series of craft-based masterclasses exploring movement, voice and a variety of acting techniques alongside intensive workshops exploring ways of creating work. Internal informal sharings of the work will be held throughout the two weeks.
Who is the course for?
- Anyone aged 18 and over with a passion for acting
- No previous professional experience is needed, but a willingness and desire to share your work with your peers is a necessity in order to participate fully
What can I expect?
The course has a strong practical focus – learning by doing. You will work in a group of up to 16 participants.
You can expect to cover topics including:
- Voice
- Movement
- Improvisation
- Monologue preparation
- Screen technique
- Contemporary text
- Scene study
- Creating your own work
Do I need anything for the course?
- You will be asked to learn a monologue in advance of the course, which will be used as part of your workshops in small groups.
- Clothing appropriate for movement sessions
- A set text will be used throughout the course. Please ensure you have purchased a copy and have read and familiarised yourself with it. You will need a physical (not digital) copy of the text for ease of making notes/highlights.

Eligibility
- We welcome participants from all ages 18 and over
- Participants must have sufficient English language skills in order to fully engage with the course
- No previous experience is necessary
About the Course Tutors
This course has been developed by Simon Money, Voice Tutor at Guildhall School.
You will work with a project director and practitioners appointed by the course leader.
Simon Money trained and worked as an actor before spending two years apprenticed to Patsy Rodenburg OBE. He holds an MA in Training Actors (Voice) from Guildhall School of Music & Drama. As a dialect coach, Simon has fostered a reputation for collaboration, rigour and joyfulness. He centres play and exploration in his work, recognising that actors enjoy a variety of approaches to dialect work.
Simon spent three years working alongside Jeannette Nelson in the Voice Department at the National Theatre, London. He has worked with actors including Michael Sheen, Maxine Peake, Ciaran Hinds, Patsy Ferran, Sheila Hancock, Jenna Russell, Lucian Msamati, Roger Allam, Phil Dunster, Anjana Vasan and Ben Daniels. He also worked with directors including Ian Rickson, Lyndsey Turner, Roy Alexander Weise, Maria Aberg and Polly Findlay. Simon recently completed filming on Season 2 of HBO’s House of the Dragon.
Simon has taught at many of London’s leading drama schools as well as maintaining a busy freelance diary, working with actors of international renown, small-scale charitable enterprises and leaders of FTSE 100 companies.
