About Musical Theatre Summer School Intensive

This new five-day course offers an inspirational insight into the three disciplines of musical theatre: singing, acting and dance.

You will work with an industry professional director, a musical director, a choreographer and a singing coach on an individual song and an ensemble number. The course will finish with an in-house musical theatre review, a relaxed, open-rehearsal style sharing of your work.

Who is the course for?

Anyone aged 16 to 17 with a passion for or an interest in musical theatre, whether you are joining to try something different, exploring your passion, or looking to pursue a career in the industry.

What can I expect?

You will work with a dedicated director on a review of musical theatre numbers, built around your chosen repertoire. The course will follow a split day structure, with half the day spent exploring a rehearsal process, and the other half in craft-based workshops, including acting, singing and dance. You will work in a group of up to 16 participants.

You can expect to:

  • Apply singing technique to a song of your choice (no more than two minutes in length)
  • Develop movement and dance skills
  • Expand on singing and vocal technique
  • Explore music through the lens of acting through song
  • Find joy in ensemble singing and building harmonies
Do I need anything for the course?
  • A two-minute cut of a musical theatre song, learnt and prepared to the best of your ability before the commencement of the course
  • Two hard copies of the music/score for piano, one for the pianist and one for you to mark in rehearsals
  • Loose fitting, comfortable clothes
  • A notebook and a pencil (make sure to have a pencil, not a pen, to change markings on music)
  • Plenty of water!
  • A generosity of spirit and willingness to create space for people to make mistakes and take risks
