About the Music Course

Our hands-on Music Course for ages 11-18, offers a technical and creative programme to develop musicianship and artistry. Working at an appropriate musical and age level students will take part in three ensembles each week.

Music Ensemble – Music Ensemble is offered in either strings, wind, brass or percussion. Exploring a range of pop, rock and classical standards these sessions will develop vital ensemble skills and work on technique, form & structure and musical expression.

Arts Lab – Creativity and collaboration are central to GYA King’s Cross training approach, and the Arts Lab Ensemble is designed to nurture student’s creativity, artistry and identity. Collaborating with other students and tutors these sessions will focus on innovation, exploring new contemporary styles and approaches to music making and performance.

GYA King's Cross Orchestra – Bringing together all music course students the GYA King’s Cross Orchestra is the place to put all the skills learnt into practice. Encompassing all instruments and exploring Classical, Jazz, and Big-Band standards as well as original works, this unique orchestra is the place to celebrate a true collective love of music.

Please note that while Guildhall Young Artists Kings Cross offers tuition on a variety of instruments, we are unable to accommodate piano as a first instrument of study.

In addition to the core timetable, an optional free 45-minute Music Production class is available from 9.00am – 9.45am. This is a great way to explore electronic music-making in a fun and supportive environment. Places on the popular music production class are subject to availability.

Throughout the year Music students will come together with drama and production arts students to create innovative performances which will be staged at the centre and other venues.
