Biography

Cecelia Bruggemeyer is in much demand in the freelance world of Historically Informed Performance. She is a member of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE), English Baroque Soloists and  Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, as well as being Principal bass for the London Handel Orchestra and The Mozartists, and receiving regular invitations from the Academy of Ancient Music and English Consort as Guest Principal.

Cecelia grew up in London, taking up the bass aged 11 when she started studying music at the Centre for Young Musicians. Her studies then took her to the Royal Academy of Music where she won the Eugene Cruft double bass prize, and where she first became interested in the world of Historical Performance through projects with Roy Goodman. This led to a year as the bassist with the European Union Baroque Orchestra in 1989 which was quickly followed by professional invitations.

As well as performing Cecelia, has been teaching at Guildhall since 2008 , and is very involved in the OAE’s education work; devising projects for under 5s, leading workshops in schools, and presenting concerts on stage.

Cecelia is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, and in 2016 became a Fellow of The Higher Education Academy though the Guildhall School Catalyst programme. This, along with her Coaching qualification (also received within Guildhall School), has led to her expanding her activities to include tutoring and mentoring for both the PG Certificate in Performance Teaching, and the Catalyst Fellowship Pathway.
