Our programme of Summer Evening courses covers music, drama, writing and more.
The courses are for ages 18+, and run on weekday evenings for up to eight weeks from Tuesday 22 April.
Our in-person courses take place across Guildhall School's campus in central London, which includes the state-of-the-art venue Milton Court and our iconic Silk Street building. Alternatively, join us from wherever you are in the world with our online short courses.
Summer Evening courses include:
- Introduction to the Music Business (online), covering copyright, recording contracts and tips for applying for public funding, this course is perfect for musicians, composers, music students, and anyone who wants to improve their knowledge of the music business.
- Introduction to Acting Practice: Level 1 and Level 2 (in-person), fun, practical acting courses catering for both beginners and those looking to further hone their acting technique.
- Music Performance in Ableton Live (online), a new course building on our popular Music Production course, aimed at those who want to learn about live performance of electronic music using Ableton Live software.
- Writing for Screen: Level 2 (in-person), designed for writers who want to get their pilot script screen-ready.
- Jazz Intermediate Skills (in-person), a new course for anyone aged 17 and over who wants to develop existing jazz skills and knowledge.

In-person Summer Evening courses
The following courses take place in-person at Guildhall School:
Introduction to Acting Practice: Level 1
Tuesdays, 7–9pm*, 22 April – 27 May 2025
Ages 18+
*The final session on 27 May will last 2.5 hours.
This course for beginners explores what 'good acting' might be and how to achieve it. During the six sessions you will work with the course tutor to develop truthfulness and connection to text.

Introduction to Acting Practice: Level 2
Tuesdays, 7–9pm*, 22 April – 10 June 2025
Ages 18+
*The final session on 10 June will last 2.5 hours.
Further develop your work and grow as an actor, focussing on building confidence through regular scene rehearsals and group sharing. This course helps participants to develop new ways to approach characters and connect to text.

Stanislavsky: A Practical Introduction
Tuesdays, 7–9pm, 22 April – 10 June 2025
Ages 18+
Get familiar with acting techniques set out by Konstantin Stanislavsky, considered the father of modern acting. Using play and imagination, this course is designed to take the fear out of what can sometimes come across as a daunting system.

Jazz Intermediate Skills
Tuesdays, 6.15–8pm, 29 April – 3 June 2025
Ages 17+
This new course is aimed at musicians who already have some experience playing jazz who want to expand their existing skills and knowledge. You will explore jazz theory and harmony through group performance, including useful material for anyone who is about to begin a degree in jazz (at Guildhall School or otherwise).

Singing for Beginners
Tuesdays, 7–9pm, 22 April – 27 May 2025
Ages 18+
Build your confidence and improve your voice with this introductory course. Using songs from a variety of genres, the course will cover breathing, vocal warm-ups and dynamics in singing, and explore colour, texture and expression in song.

Writing for an Orchestra: Beginners
Tuesdays, 7–9pm, 22 April – 27 May 2025
Ages 18+
Perfect for any composers and musicians with a passion for orchestral music, this course will use musical excerpts to demonstrate the basics of composing for the instruments of an orchestra.

Writing for Screen: Level 2
Tuesdays, 7–9pm, 22 April – 10 June 2025
Ages 18+
Focussing on writing for TV drama, the course will guide you through the next steps after writing your first script, including TV development, and pitching to agents and production companies.

Film Music Composition: Beginners
Tuesdays, 7.15–9.15pm BST (UTC+1), 22 April – 27 May 2025
Ages 18+
Aimed at anyone with a passion for cinema and film music, this six-week online course will equip you with an understanding of how to compose music for film.

Demystify live performance of electronic music using the Ableton Live software. This course explores various hardware and software options to enable live sequencing, arrangement, sound design and mixing.
