Guildhall School of Music & Drama granted £614,250 of Art Scholarships over three years by the Leverhulme Trust

Guildhall School of Music & Drama is delighted to announce it has been granted £614,250 of Art Scholarships over the next three years by the Leverhulme Trust. This includes major scholarship support for postgraduate musicians, as well as for children and young people under the age of 18 studying with Guildhall Young Artists.

Guildhall School’s grants include £210,000 for postgraduate music scholarships, and £404,250 for Guildhall Young Artists (GYA), representing a 40% increase in bursary support by the Leverhulme Trust for under-18s.

Guildhall School is the UK’s largest single provider of specialist music education for under-18s, with almost 1,700 young people aged between 4 and 18 studying with Guildhall Young Artists in 2023/24. The GYA network includes centres across London, Norwich and Taunton, as well as the newly launched GYA Online, which as of Autumn 2024 has reached over 120 students from 25 countries, including Australia, South African and the USA. In 2023/24, 24% of GYA students received a bursary, or some form of financial support, and the Leverhulme Trust’s generous grant will provide around 350 bursaries for young people at GYA centres over the next three years.

Guildhall School Principal Professor Jonathan Vaughan said: “As we approach the end of 2024, we are very thankful to the Leverhulme Trust for their continued support of Guildhall School. Their generosity, along with that of all our donors, is vital to achieving the School’s aim of removing financial barriers to study and empowering our talented students to thrive. We are particularly grateful to the Leverhulme Trust for increasing their support for Guildhall Young Artists, creating even more opportunities for young people to unlock their creative potential.”

As one of the world’s leading conservatoires, Guildhall School is deeply committed to ensuring that finances are not a barrier to accessing our outstanding training. In 2023/24, the School awarded over 950 scholarships and bursaries to students across all subjects, including more than 200 for under-18s through Guildhall Young Artists. This financial support is made possible thanks to the generosity of nearly 550 individuals, liveries, companies and trusts, whose philanthropic gifts of more than £3 million enable the School to deliver world-class training to the next generation of creative talent.
