Biography

Bryn Lewis is Principal Harpist with the London Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 1994. Prior to this he was Principal with the Philharmonia Orchestra, and also played with all the London orchestras, with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

As a soloist, recitalist and chamber musician, Bryn has performed in the UK and abroad, with a variety of ensembles, including the Nash Ensemble, London Sinfonietta, Northern Sinfonia, London Mozart Players and Orqueasta Cadaques. 

Highlights include devising and performing in two Barbican LSO chamber concerts based around the harp; a tour of Japan and a recording for DG, of Mozart’s Flute and Harp Concerto with Giussepe Sinopoli, Ken Smith and the Philharmonia; and very recently, performances in Spain and a second recording of the Mozart, with Sir Neville Marriner, Jaime Martin and the Orquesta Cadaques.

Bryn has premiered solo works by, amongst others, Elliot Carter, Robin Holloway and Dimitri Smirnov, and he has also recorded a disc of Debussy with Marisa Robles and the Nash Ensemble for Virgin, and an acclaimed collection of the Britten Folk Songs for Hyperion.

Bryn has given masterclasses in London, Rio de Janeiro and Chicago. His own main harp studies were with Jean Bell in Manchester and Renata Scheffel-Stein in London.
