Guildhall School presents the 2022 Chamber Music Festival

From 8-10 July, join instrumentalists from Guildhall School of Music & Drama  as they perform with their professors in a celebration of Chamber Music in three venues across London. The first in-person chamber festival since 2019, this weekend is set to be an inspiring and delightful celebration of collaboration and live musical performance. A diverse range of works from the familiar to the almost-unheard will surely spark imaginations and bring chamber music to life once more.

Acclaimed ensembles and BBC New Generation Artists Mithras Piano Trio and Consone String Quartet return to Guildhall School to perform in an evening of Masterpieces. Together with students from Guildhall School’s Chamber Music Programme, they will present a programme of Tchaikovsky, Boccherini and Mendelssohn (9 July). 

The ever-dynamic Coalitiō Quartet explore Hans Keller’s wordless theories into the movement of musical theory in their performance of What is Functional Analysis? (8 July). Audiences attending the Silk Street Music Hall will experience a diverse and rich sound world filled with conceptual existentialism.

Milton Court Concert Hall will see a number of performances throughout the festival, with the sounds of Malcolm Arnold, Shostakovich, Coleridge-Taylor, and Dvorak providing a musical feast for audiences on the opening night (8 July). Delighting audiences with dynamic range and diversity, the ensembles will also present works by Beethoven, Martinů, Prokofiev and Arensky (10 July). Rarely heard works from Bridge and Roussel will be performed  in a programme with Mozart and Brahms (10 July).

A celebration of Purcell and Britten will take place at The Charterhouse Chapel (9 July), with performers paying tribute to British music-making.

In addition to concerts, the students will be put through their paces in a selection of Masterclasses, led by renowned performers Caroline Palmer and Ian Wilson (10 July). The leader of Endellion Quartet, Andrew Watkinson, will present an insightful workshop on Mendelssohn’s use of strings and the importance of performing the composer’s Quartet in A Minor, op.13.
