About Discovery Music Course
For ages 7 – 11 (School Years 3,4,5 & 6).
Our Discovery Music Course is an exciting opportunity for young musicians to explore a diverse range of musical styles and genres. Through weekly ensemble classes in strings, wind, brass, or percussion, students will develop essential skills in ensemble playing, notation reading, improvisation, and musicianship.
Participants will work on a variety of genres, including pop, jazz, and classical standards, all while mastering their chosen instrument.
Please note that while Guildhall Young Artists Kings Cross offers tuition on a variety of instruments, we are unable to accommodate piano as a first instrument of study.
In addition to their music ensemble class, Discovery students (in both Music and Drama courses) will participate in the GYA Kings Cross Choir each week, further enhancing their ensemble and musicality skills.
The Discovery Music Course is ideal for beginners, those looking to spend enjoyable hours making music with new friends, or anyone considering taking their musical passion to the next level.
At Guildhall Young Artists, we prioritise creativity and collaboration and Discovery students will have the chance to participate in centre-wide performance opportunities, both at our venue and beyond.
Classes run from 9am to 11am, providing students with 1 hour and 45 minutes of lesson time, including a 15-minute break.
An optional Music Production class is available for music and drama students age 7–11 from 11am–12pm.
These classes will provide the perfect introduction to music technology and will prepare students to progress to the 11-18 group, where they will be encouraged to use more advanced elements of music production to express their musical ideas.
Please note, this will be an additional cost for students on the Music Discovery and Drama Discovery Course.
Looking for private tuition with one of our expert tutors? Book a 30-minute instrumental or vocal lesson, to be taken alongside the Music Discovery Course. Register your interest when signing up for a course.
Please note, one-to-one lessons are subject to availability, and we are unable to accommodate private piano lessons.
Fees
£259 per term (£25.90 per week)
With one-to-one lesson
Add an individual 30-minute instrumental or vocal lesson (subject to availability) for an additional £295 (£29.50 per week) + the cost of the Music Discovery Course.
Payment schedule
The course or courses signed up for will be charged per term. Where a student enrols mid-term, any fees will be adjusted to cover the sessions enrolled for. Please see our term dates for information.
Once a student has enrolled for a term, half a term's notice must be given to cancel. See more information on our finance and funding page.
Four-week trial period:
Guildhall Young Artists offers the first four-weeks as a trial period for all new students, after which, if you decide not to continue, fees will only be charged for the four weeks attended and the remaining terms fees waived.
The four week trial can only be redeemed when signing up to Guildhall Young Artists King’s Cross in the first four weeks of the term (we are unable to offer the trail period to people signing up mid term). If notice is not given after the first four weeks of attendance, the whole terms fees are payable.
Deposit
We ask for a £100 holding deposit to secure your place. On receipt of your application, a friendly member of our team will discuss your requirements noted on the application form and send a payment link for the reservation of a place. This payment will be taken off the first terms fees.

We regret it is not possible to give refunds or reschedule classes in the event of absence as the Centre has to continue paying professional tutors and overheads. GYA King’s Cross expects as close to 100% attendance as possible, to ensure you develop and get the most out of your training.
Half a term’s notice is required to stop attending (except in exceptional circumstances). This notice period is required to fulfil obligations to the professional tutors, pay for facilities and to encourage you to be fully committed to the courses chosen.
