Biography

In addition to teaching at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Christopher is the principal piccolo of the Orchestra of The Royal Opera House Covent Garden and principal flute of the Orchestra of English National Ballet.

Born in East Yorkshire, he studied the flute with David Butt and Kathryn Lukas whilst at Reading and City Universities and The National Centre for Orchestral Studies; and with Andreas Blau in Berlin on an Ian Fleming Trust scholarship. During this time he was a member of the European Community Youth Orchestra.

At 23, he was appointed principal piccolo of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and was a founder member of The Contemporary Music Ensemble of Wales.

Christopher returned to London as piccolo and co-principal flute of the BBC Concert Orchestra for the next 11 years before moving to the Royal Opera House. Throughout his career, he has recorded extensively for radio, film, television and many of the major commercial labels and still continues to perform with orchestras across Britain.

A dedicated and passionate teacher, Christopher has held posts at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Exeter University, The Royal College of Music, and recorded teaching videos for the 'Principal Chairs' website.

He is also the piccolo teacher at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
