Tim Lowe

Biography

Working as a soloist and chamber musician throughout Europe, Tim enjoys a busy and varied career and is rapidly building a reputation as one of the new generation of young English cellists. He spends much of his time playing recitals throughout  the UK and has played in major London venues such as Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square, QEH, Cadogan Hall and the Purcell Room. Tim has played live on BBC Radio 3 as well as radio stations throughout Europe. He has won numerous awards and prizes including from the Kirckman Concert Society, the Tillett Trust and the Countess of Munster Trust.

Tim has been Guest Principal Cello with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and plays regularly as Guest Principal Cello of the English Chamber Orchestra. His work with the ECO takes him all over the world including recent tours to the Far East, Doha and all over Europe. He has also played with the ECO Ensemble.

In addition to teaching at the Guildhall School, Tim teaches and coaches regularly at Eton College and on Pro Corda international chamber music courses as well as many other courses and festivals throughout Europe.

Tim was educated at Eton College where he was a Major Music scholar before studying with Louise Hopkins at the Guildhall School. Tim’s 2011-13 seasons include performances of Dvorak, Elgar, Saint-Saens, Walton and Schumann concertos. He has recently given recitals at the Brighton Festival, an innovative festival in Sofia, Bulgaria, and at Wigmore Hall. 

Tim plays a cello made by Carolo Tononi in 1716 and a bow by John Dodds (made to display at the Great Exhibition in 1851).
