Biography
Brigitte Beraha is now recognised as one of the most versatile and exciting vocalists on the UK Jazz scene. As well as performing and recording with many Jazz legends, including Kenny Wheeler, Stuart Hall, Martin France, John Parricelli, Bobby Wellins and Henry Lowther she is closely involved in the work of the new generation of Jazz musicians and in particular the Loop and E17 jazz collectives.
An experienced educator, Brigitte leads jazz workshops throughout the year and also teaches at The Welsh College of Music & Drama. She has performed and led workshops in the United States, France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Turkey, Nepal and the UK. Drawing comparisons with such luminaries as Norma Winstone, Flora Purim and Tania Maria, Brigitte has forged her own, very individual voice, and is known as both ‘sideman’ and leader in an ever-expanding range of projects, from straight ahead jazz- singing jazz standard songs with lyrics, to more contemporary outlets- using her voice as an instrument.
With five albums to her credit, her latest album with Babelfish, Chasing Rainbows, co-led with Barry Green and featuring legends Chris Laurence and Paul Clarvis, has received rave reviews. A debut album Alimentation by super group Solstice (featuring Brigitte, Tori Freestone, John Turville, Jez Franks, Dave Manington & George Hart) was released in December 2016.
"A great musician, Brigitte Beraha uses her voice like an instrument in the tradition of people like Flora Purim, Tania Maria and Esperanza Spalding." - Julian Joseph, Jazz Line-Up, BBC Radio 3
