Biography
Faith Whiteley studied with Beatrix Marr at the Royal Academy of Music. She began teaching violin in 1962 at Durham Technical College and in Washington Comprehensive in Jarrow. She has since taught at a number of schools and universities, including the Yehudi Menuhin School for six years and Wells Cathedral School. Her publications include A First Violin Book with Walter Bergmann (Oxford University Press). Faith has been teaching at Junior Guildhall since 1982 where she developed and was the first head of the String Training Programme. Her pupils have gone on to study with various teachers including Felix Andrievsvky, Klaus Assmann, Zakhar Bron, Dorothy Delay, Sergei Fatkoulin, Ilona Feher, Simon Fischer, Zino Franciscatti, Rodney Friend, Emanuel Hurwitz, David Martin, Krzysztof Smietana, Pauline Scott, David Takeno, and Yossi Zivoni. She breeds Volpino dogs and lives in Canterbury and near Lyon, France.
