Auditioning for the Acting Programme
Who can apply?
We encourage applicants from a wide range of ages and backgrounds to audition for our Acting programme. Our students are selected on merit by audition which means it is not necessary to have any previous acting experience.
When you begin your training with us, you should normally be at least 18 years old. Most students are a few years older and there is no upper age limit.
Applications from overseas applicants are welcomed. Current and recent international students have come from Argentina, Australia, Bermuda, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, India, Italy, Israel, Japan, Norway, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and the United States. To apply, you must be completely fluent in the English Language.
Diversity of people and of thought is an enriching and vital part of theatre-making. We welcome applications from individuals with disabilities and encourage you to disclose relevant information regarding any disability when completing your application form. This will enable us to provide additional support to you during the audition process.

There is no longer a limit on the maximum number of previous applications that an individual can make.
Our application and audition process
Applications for 2025 entry to our BA Acting programme open on 30 September 2024.
The application process involves a three-stage audition: the first round audition, the second round audition and the final recall audition. You must pass each stage in order to proceed to the next.
First round auditions are by submission of an audition video.
After you have submitted your application you will receive instructions about how to send us your audition video. It may take up to six weeks before you hear from us.
Second round auditions will take place in person in London and regional locations (to be confirmed).
Final recall auditions will take place in person, in London. If you are unable to attend the final recall auditions, you cannot be considered for a place on the Acting programme.
Guidance, support and how to prepare for your audition
To support your application to our Acting programme, we’ve prepared some helpful advice, including guidance on what monologues to prepare, and a video on how to create your recorded first round audition video. Find out more.
Application deadlines
BA (Hons) Acting: 4.30pm on Wednesday 15 January 2025.
Please note: we do not accept applications after the above deadline under any circumstances.
Application Fee
The application fee of £37, is a non-refundable, one-off fee. This means there are no additional fees should you progress through the audition stages.
Re-application
If you are unsuccessful at any audition stage, you will have to wait until the following academic year to apply again.
There is no longer a limit on the maximum number of previous applications that an individual can make.
Please note: the above video mentions preparing three monologues. Applicants should prepare two monologues. In previous years three monologues were required.
What to expect at audition
The entrance audition for the Acting programme is in three stages, each of which must be passed before you can proceed to the next stage.
First round auditions are by submission of a self-recorded audition video. For this audition round, you are required to prepare an introduction and two monologues. Details about the submission process are available on the Auditions - Preparation and Advice page.
When your video has been reviewed, you will be emailed with the outcome of your audition.
If you progress to the second round audition stage you will be advised by email of your audition date as soon as possible after review of your first round audition video.
Second round auditions will take place in person in London and regional locations (to be confirmed).
For international applicants outside Europe, auditions may be arranged to take place during the week prior to the final recall auditions (dates noted below).
If you are not recalled to the final recall auditions, you should understand that you will not be offered a place and no further communication will be sent to you. The decision of the Audition Panel must be regarded as final.
If you are successful at the second round audition stage you will be invited to return for the final recall auditions, which will be held at the School in London. Applicants who progress to the final recall audition stage will be required to attend for one day.
The final recall auditions take place in May 2025 (exact dates to be confirmed) and will usually continue for no more than eight days.
Please be aware that when confirmed, the final recall audition period is fixed and unchangeable; therefore, if you are unable to attend, you cannot be considered for a place on the programme.
Final recall auditions include more detailed work on audition monologues and a group activity. You will meet and work with staff members who teach on the programme.
Further information will be sent to final recall auditions applicants nearer the time.
- In person auditions are scheduled to take place on weekdays only; we currently do not audition at weekends.
- Due to the volume of applications received, please allow up to 6 weeks to be contacted about your audition.
- Updates regarding auditions are sent to you by email. Please be aware that occasionally email notifications can be diverted to junk mail folders, so please check these too.
