Biography
Tom studied at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, where he studied the trumpet under Alan Thomas (RAF bands, BBC Symphony orchestra and CBSO.) Jon Holland (principalCity of Birmingham Symphony orchestra) and Andy Stone-Fewings (Principal trumpet for the Royal Shakespeare company).
He played in various ensembles during his time at the conservatoire including the Thallien ensemble (the conservatoire’s contemporary music group), and Symphony Orchestra where he played principle trumpet on several occasions.
In 2018, Tom was the winner of the Alfred Corfield Trumpet Prize, a solo recital competition that was adjudicated by international soloist Simon Höfle. Tom played in several masterclasses at the conservatoire, receiving tuition from musicians such as: Rex Richardson, Allen Vizzuti, Phillip Cobb and members of Stockholm Chamber Brass. Tom enjoys playing a wide range of music and has worked playing in operas, musicals, chamber music as well as playing for part of the soundtrack of the BBC’s Peaky Blinders.
As a tutor Tom has lead several workshops across the UK, working for various organisations, ranging from teaching beginners to high level students. He has gained a large amount of teaching experience since graduating, both in the classroom and as a brass tutor.
Away from music, Tom enjoys watching and playing cricket, as well as cycling.
