Biography

David studied the horn at the Guildhall School of Music Junior Department with John Burden and Anthony Halstead, winning the Lutine Prize in 1985. Four years further study followed in the senior college with Anthony Chidell, Richard Bissill and Hugh Seenan. 

He has taught at the Junior Department since 1998 and currently works in several Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire schools as well as teaching the natural and baroque horn at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. 

 As a freelance player, David has played with many of the UK’s orchestras and ensembles including; the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, English National Opera Orchestra, B.B.C. Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Sinfonietta, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked on commercial recordings and played on productions at both the Royal National Theatre and in the West End. 

David has performed and recorded for all of the U.K.’s leading period orchestras and has been a member of the Academy of Ancient Music and the Hanover Band since 1997.
