Biography
Geraldine studied Flute and Violin at London College of Music, studying flute performance with Rainer Schulien, Edward Blakeman and Ann Cherry, and violin lessons with Catherine Frith.
Since leaving Music College, Geraldine has devoted her time to teaching in schools across the county and at her home.
Music performance has always been hugely important, and Geraldine has played in ensembles as diverse as pit bands (as a triple woodwind player) big bands (on tenor and Alto) and in orchestras on flute and piccolo.
Ensemble direction is a passion and Geraldine has directed and coached ensembles ranging across abilities from youngest musicians to adult, including directing ensembles for Norfolk Music Service. The Norfolk Students Jazz band has several times successfully qualified for the regional finals and this year has the enormous privilege of being invited to perform at the MFY Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall.
Geraldine developed a love for jazz and took part in extensive professional development with the National Youth Jazz collective, being tutored by Nick Smart, Nikki Illes, Issie Barrat and many other leading London musicians.
This developed her strong pedagogical approach with an emphasis on enabling students with no previous experience to gain confidence with their own improvisational voice.
