Biography
Henry studied at the Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music and Manhattan School of Music, and was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the European Youth Orchestra.
In 2021 Henry joined the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden as Section Principal Percussion. Before this, between 2010 and 2021, he was a member of the percussion sections of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and London Philharmonic Orchestra. With these three orchestras Henry has performed a huge range of symphonic, ballet and opera music and is lucky to have worked with the orchestras during golden relationships with conductors including Vasily Petrenko, Vladimir Jurowski and Sir Antonio Pappano.
In 2005 Henry became Principal Timpani and Percussion, and a founding member, of Aurora Orchestra. As Aurora has grown, the orchestra has explored innovative and daring ways of presenting some of the greatest chamber and orchestral works. Along the way there have been some extraordinary concert experiences with Music Director and Conductor Nicholas Collon including a spectacular theatrical presentation of Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique at the BBC Proms, John Adams Chamber Symphony at the Melbourne Festival and Boulez Le Marteau sans Maître at the International Chamber Music Series, Southbank Centre.
Since 2015 Henry has enjoyed teaching and giving masterclasses at a number of UK conservatoires including the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and is delighted to join the teaching staff at Guildhall in 2023.
