Biography
Mezzo-soprano Samantha Malk has performed throughout Europe, Asia, the Americas, and her native South Africa. On the opera stage, her roles have included Dorabella, Nicklausse and Dido, and she has been featured as soloist with the International Contemporary Ensemble and the Mark Morris Dance Group. In concert, Samantha has partnered with pianist Warren Jones and appeared as soloist in venues such as Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Brugge and Seiji Ozawa Hall.
Most recently based in New York City, Samantha has established a significant reputation as a teacher and mentor, working with singers who have gained contracts with theatres such as LA Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Berlin’s Komische Oper, the Bavarian State Opera, and on Broadway, as well as guiding conservatoire-level students and members of major young artist programmes in the US. Samantha has taught privately in Amsterdam, London and Paris, is voice consultant for the young-artist programme of the Israeli Opera and has served on the faculties of the Brooklyn College, International Vocal Arts Institute and Summer Opera Tel Aviv.
She holds degrees in vocal performance from Indiana University and the Manhattan School of Music. In 2018 Samantha joins the Guildhall School of Music & Drama as Deputy Head of Vocal Studies.
