Big Sing: Changing Voices

We are thrilled to team up with the national leaders in singing with young people, The Voices Foundation. Get your school singing, receive training in advance and join us for this collaborative Islington schools' event on Tuesday 4 July at Union Chapel. 

Our motto “Changing Voices” invites you to start an Islington vocal revolution: developing strong, healthy voices from primary age and a focus for secondary schools on the changing voices teenagers go through which very often leads to a huge decline in the uptake of singing in young people. 

Since singing has so many social and health benefits, we really want to spread the word and joy as far as wide as we can!

We have one programme for primary and one for secondary schools to engage and empower your provision:

The primary programme consists of two twilight CPD sessions, one to learn our Big Sing repertoire including the best way to teach your students to sing our pieces with confidence and skill. The second is about developing singing at your school and will include engaging warm up activities and foundational voice knowledge on how to choose appropriate repertoire as well as a bank of appropriate repertoire to both excite and develop classes and choirs at your school.

The in-school workshops for the secondary programme are now full. However, there is still a lot of capacity at Union Chapel for everyone, whether they have attended the workshops or not, to come together on 4 July to share the singing joy.

25 April | 4:30-6pm: Primary CPD 1 at Moreland Primary School: learning repertoire and teaching strategies for the Big Sing Event, 

23 May | 4:40-6pm: Primary CPD 2 at Moreland Primary School: All about developing singing at your school:  activities of engaging warm up activities, foundational voice knowledge how to choose appropriate repertoire as well a bank of appropriate repertoire to both, excite and develop classes and choirs at your school.

20 June: Event sign up closes

4 July: Big Sing at Union Chapel
