Ahead of leading a performance of Enescu’s Octet for Strings in the festival’s Sunday afternoon concert, Guildhall School violin professor Simon Blendis delves into the Romanian composer’s magnificent piece in this illustrated lecture. Written in 1900, when Enescu was only 19 years old, the captivating octet is widely considered to be one of the most seminal of chamber music repertoire.
