Guildhall Vocal Jazz Ensemble, led by Clare Wheeler (Swingle Singers, Kurt Elling) is one of the fantastic vocal groups made up of Jazz students at Guildhall School.
This concert, in collaboration with guest artist Tara Minton, harp, is inspired by music largely written and performed by female artists and explores themes of cultural and personal identity, inclusion and community.
Clare and Tara first worked together last year on a special performance of Tara's jazz suite Please Do Not Ignore The Mermaid at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. The music deals with feminism, climate change and colonialism through the eyes of mythical mermaids from different cultural backgrounds.
This concert will feature predominantly new and original music, including a world premiere by Clare Wheeler, brought to life by the Guildhall Vocal Jazz Ensemble’s outstanding vocalists. Expect lush harmonies, infectious rhythms and a vibrant atmosphere.
