Event information
A pianist, a ballerina, state-of-the-art animations and digital effects. The Nutcracker for the 21st century.
Join us for this seasonal classic told like it’s never been told before, with animations and effects creating a fantastical world is so real that you might even start to believe in sugar plum fairies!
Alexandra Dariescu's The Nutcracker and I was premiered at Milton Court in December 2017, supported by Guildhall School, and has since then enjoyed international critical acclaim on many tours across Europe, Australia, China, the Emirates and the US.
A Guildhall School alumna and now professor, Alexandra inspires audiences by telling her own story as Clara: from a little girl who dares to dream to a concert pianist travelling the world.
On stage, she is at the piano joined by the ballerina behind a see-through gauze screen, whilst exquisite, hand drawn digital animations are projected onto the gauze and interact with the ballerina, bringing the magical story to life.
The music contains 15 virtuosic movements of the original Tchaikovsky score arranged by Mikhail Pletnev, Stefan Esipoff, Percy Grainger and three brand-new transcriptions by Gavin Sutherland.
Celebrate the 100th performance of this stunning production and “dare to dream” with us!
