We are looking for an outstanding individual to join us as a Stage Management Lecturer in our Production Arts Department. The Stage Management Lecturer works predominantly in the Stage Management Pathway, teaching, tutoring and supervising work across all areas of stage management, including ASM, DSM, and SM roles. You will have extensive industry experience that demonstrates continued high standing in the profession. You will be responsible for teaching stage management across areas including theatre, opera, live events, film, television and/or digital production (it is not necessary to have experience in all areas; appointments will be made with a view to utilising the skills of the chosen candidate). You will supervise students undertaking production and project work and oversee safe working practices. You will also contribute to wider teaching, tutoring and assessment activities in the department. You will have a good understanding of the needs of students in a complex learning and performing arts environment; and the ability to represent your discipline in the public domain through professional/industry sector engagement and consultancy.
The Production Arts Department is responsible for BA Production Arts, BA Digital Design & Production and MA Collaborative Theatre Production and Design; a series of short courses and outreach activities; and extensive production activity in the School’s programme of public-facing performances and events. We work closely on a range of productions (including operas, dramas, site-specific and digital works) with other departments at Guildhall and (through Guildhall Production Studio) a range of external and commercial partners. Our students learn through workshop-based activities, study and intensive production practice. They have opportunities to extend their knowledge by working on pathways other than their major area of study, and to develop their own interests and creative agency through independent projects. The Department is values-led and promotes diversity and inclusivity along with sustainable practices.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing teaching in their areas of specialism. You will be organised, a team player, able to meet deadlines and manage your own workload. Digital, Production & Venue Support Technician - Rigging & Automation Specialism
Permanent, Full Time (35 hours per week)

We have an exciting to join the Guildhall School’s Digital, Production & Venue Support (DPVS) team in key technical roles within one of the world’s leading arts institutions. The DPVS team supports over 1,150 events annually, spanning theatrical productions, operas, concerts, and commercial events, within venues such as the Milton Court Theatre and Concert Hall. Our 26-person team manages an extensive technical inventory valued at £8 million, providing exceptional technical support across rigging, lighting, sound, and recording services.
We are looking for skilled DPVS Technicians with a focus on Rigging & Automation to ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of rigging systems, both counterweight and automated, as well as loose rigging equipment. This role is responsible for supporting the setup and operation of technical systems, aiding the DPVS team in delivering seamless client service and ensuring the safe operation of our venues and equipment. Key Responsibilities:
- Work collaboratively with the DPVS management team and technicians to provide high-quality rigging and technical support, prioritizing safety and effective communication across all venues.
- Rig, operate, and maintain both counterweight and automated rigging systems, as well as loose rigging equipment.
- Assist with the setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of other technical systems, including lighting, sound, AV, and staging equipment, as required.
- Conduct statutory testing and inspections of rigging and other equipment, including LOLER and PUWER inspections.
- Adhere to Guildhall School and City of London Health and Safety policies, actively supporting a safe working environment.
What We’re Looking For:
- Demonstrable expertise in rigging and flying systems, with experience in setting up, operating, and troubleshooting counterweight and automated rigging systems.
- Knowledge of health and safety protocols relevant to technical production, including LOLER and PUWER compliance.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and clients.
- A proactive approach to maintenance, compliance, and inventory management.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required by event schedules.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience in a technical rigging role within theatrical or concert settings.
- Industry-specific certifications (e.g., IOSH Working Safely, LOLER Inspection, IPAF for MEWPs) or equivalent practical knowledge.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safe work practices.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

As a Lighting Specialist, you will be integral to the planning, setup, and execution of lighting across our productions. Design Realisation Assistant

The Guildhall School of Music & Drama is a vibrant, international community of young musicians, actors and theatre technicians in the heart of the City of London. We produce outstanding graduates whose talents light up stages and concert platforms throughout the world. As well as providing professional training at junior, undergraduate and postgraduate level, the School has a substantial programme of regular performances, encompassing concerts, recitals, plays, operas and musicals open to the general public.
The successful candidate will work closely with the lecturers in Scenic Art, Construction and Props, providing high quality technical support and maintenance for Guildhall productions and teaching, ensuring the highest levels of service to staff, students and other venue users, and using safe working procedures at all times. You will assist in the preparation of workshop spaces and materials and supervise their use for teaching exercises and production activity as well as assisting in the construction and painting of props and scenery.
Working with and inspiring the students, acting as a role model for professional behaviour, you will supervise student activity and provide practical assistance including demonstrating techniques. You will also be responsible for maintaining a stock of consumables and supplies, ensuring that the workshops are tidy and that equipment is maintained in good working order. A good knowledge of all three Design Realisation disciplines is desirable, with professional experience of at least one area (i.e props, scenic art or construction), essential.

Production Arts & Drama Administration supports a diverse and creative community of students and staff across the two faculties, with both offering practice based vocational programmes. Reporting to the Production Arts & Drama Administration Manager (Records), you will take personal responsibility for maintaining the accuracy of student records, including assessment and engagement data, and supporting processes associated with our programme provision for over 200 undergraduate and postgraduate students.
You should be a Higher Education professional with a sound working knowledge of student records and assessment processes. You will have experience of prioritising workloads to meet challenging deadlines and the ability to maintain high levels of accuracy when inputting data.
