Entry and audition requirements
We welcome all levels of experience but recommend that applicants applying for any of our courses/programmes (excluding the Primary Years Programme, Youth Brass Programme and Taster Course) have a minimum of one year learning an instrument/singing or composing. Entry and audition requirements are outlined on each of the courses and programmes listed below.
Courses
Our Full Programme, designed for ages 8–18, offers a rich musical experience across multiple genres and styles. Students participate in at least one ensemble or group activity, sing in a choir, attend a supporting studies class, and receive one-to-one instrumental, vocal or composition lessons. This is our flagship programme, recommended for all students who meet the eligibility criteria.

If, due to extenuating circumstances, a student is unable to receive one-to-one lessons at CYM, they may be able to join our Core Programme. It includes all aspects of the Full Programme except the one-to-one lesson, subject to availability and approval by the Head of Centre. We generally recommend students join the Full Programme for the best overall learning experience.
Designed for younger string players aged 7–11 at Grade 1–3 level, this 90-minute weekly class focuses on developing musicianship, technique, and ensemble skills. After one or two years, students typically transition into the Full Programme.

A four-year programme beginning in Year 1, PYP introduces children to the world of music through singing, playing, and creative activities. Inspired by Kodály and Dalcroze methods, the course builds musical foundations while developing confidence and communication skills. Instrumental learning begins in Year 2. Upon completion, students may continue their learning by joining the Full Programme.
