Biography

Ewan is commonly described as a Jazz piano player, and while he holds a BA in Jazz from Middlesex University he will equally find himself in the role of rock organist, keyboard player or increasingly - as an improvising musician, playing with the likes of Simon Limbrick, using synths, samples and other such electronic music making devices.

In 2019 Ewan completed his post graduate teaching qualification in ‘Performance Education’ at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. It was through the Guildhall that he got to work on the ‘Future Band’ project with Detta Danford and Natasha Zielazinski, this work inspired him to bring group composition and improvisation into the core of his teaching.

Ewan has also been training in the Taubman approach to piano technique since 2017, and in 2019 attended the ‘Well Balanced Pianist’ course in New York. The technique has helped him work through a past injury as well as aiding in developing a greater facility at the piano. As such, this technique forms a fundamental part of his teaching.

Most importantly to Ewan, he believes in the transformative effect of making time for creativity and creative practice in life.
