Biography
Specialist Area: Scenography & Directing
What's been your highlight during your time at Guildhall?
I would say going straight out of my comfort zone starting with the first project: I gave my contribution as Scenographer, but also as part of the writing team and assisting both the director and the DSM. I think that gave me a clearer perception of my flexibility, strengths and soft points as a practitioner, and reinforce the idea that I don’t want to fit in a specific definition.
What's something you've learned that you feel will help you when you graduate?
I have learnt the importance of effective communication when collaborating with other practitioners as a team, giving each other space to express our own ideas. I am really appreciating the way we all offer our skills, whilst being eager to learn new ones at the same time. This is an approach that I’m sure is really valuable in the industry and that will make the difference when stepping out of school.
What are you most interested in working in after you graduate?
At the moment I am in the process of understanding my own practice better – after years of working on opera-based projects, it’s exciting to see how the different types of production we are working on as a team are shaping and enriching my practice. One thing I know for sure is that I don’t want to work in commercial theatre. I would be more interested in independent and small productions, in the political and social impact of theatre, and in its intersection of with other art forms. I am considering the idea of exploring the field of Site-Specific practice.
