About Introduction to Acting Practice: Level 2
This eight-week evening course will help you to further develop your work and grow as an actor. You will focus on building your confidence through regular scene rehearsals and group sharing and will develop new ways to approach characters and connect to text, all within a small and supportive ensemble.
Who is the course for?
- Although the course serves as a direct follow-on from the previous Introduction to Acting Practice, Level 1 course, it is suitable for anyone who wants to expand their toolkit and has some acting experience. You must have some experience of analysing and discussing acting, as well as acting in front of an audience or fellow students.
- There is no upper age limit on this course. We encourage and welcome participants from all ages 18 and over.
What can I expect?
You can expect to:
- Grow in confidence and ease any nerves through regularly acting in front of each other
- Familiarise yourself with acting terminology and analyse the often elusive art of acting
- Build a toolbox of ways to approach a scene or a character
This is a practical course, and you will be encouraged to participate in informal discussion and experimentation.
Attendance of all eight sessions is strongly recommended to allow progression of learning and for the benefit of the group as a whole.
Do I need anything for the course?
We will be using Blank by Alice Birch as a set text. You will need to source your own physical copy (preferable) or an electronic format of the play to participate in the course.

Eligibility
- For everyone aged 18+. There is no upper age limit on this course. We encourage and welcome participants from all ages 18 and over.
- Participants must have sufficient English language skills to cope with course demands.
About the Course Tutor
This course is taught by Patrick Osborne.
Patrick Osborne is an actor who graduated from Guildhall School of Music & Drama in 2010. His theatre work includes Much Ado About Nothing and The Tempest (Shakespeare’s Globe), Comedy of Errors (RSC and Barbican), Shakespeare in Love (West End), Peter Pan (Open Air, Regents Park), Noises Off (UK tour), All My Sons, The Cherry Orchard and Kindertransport (Nottingham Playhouse), Accolade and After October (Finborough Theatre). TV and Film credits include Their Finest and The Borgias.
He has taught on the Foundation Course at ALRA and at Guildhall on the Acting Summer School and the Preliminary Acting Course, where he also facilitates workshops for the Access and Participation Department.
