Biography
Zoë Mather was born in London and musically educated at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. While at the Guildhall she won all the prizes for piano, numerous national prizes including the Duke of Devonshire Award and the John Lill Award, and was a piano finalist in the BBC Young Musician competition 1990. Her postgraduate year was sponsored by the Countess of Munster Musical Trust. In the summer of 1994 she was offered an English Speaking Union scholarship to the Academie Maurice Ravel in the south of France and in the following November she gave a piano recital at the National Portrait Gallery which was broadcast on Radio 3 as part of their Young Artists’ Forum series.In 1995 Zoë gave her Wigmore Hall debut and was invited to represent the Countess of Munster Trust in their 1996-98 recital scheme, during which time she gave recitals and made concerto appearances around the UK.
Since then, Zoë has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist throughout the UK and Europe. As a soloist she has performed regularly for BBC Radio 3 including a week-long series of world premieres of pieces by Charles Koechlin, recitals dedicated to the works of Ravel and frequent contributions to the Ensemble programme. She has also given live concerts for Classic FM. Zoë has accompanied artists as diverse as the soprano Elizabeth Soderström and dancer Irek Mukhamedov who has invited her to play for him many times, both on tour and at Sadler’s Wells. She has collaborated extensively with string players and worked for many years with violinist Matthew Trusler. She was a featured soloist on Lesley Garrett’s albums The Singer and How Deep Is The Night, both released on EMI. Zoë has given masterclasses around the country and teaches piano at the Junior Guildhall, Forest School and the Yehudi Menuhin School.
