James Porter

Biography

James has been teaching guitar for ~15 years and is a graduate in music from The University of East Anglia. James currently works as a private guitar tutor, peripatetic guitar teacher at Beeston Hall School and Ormiston Victory Academy, delivers curriculum music classes through NORCA, as well as general music and theory classes with orchestral programme Sistema in Norwich. For guitar students wanting to take exams, James tends to follow the RGT or Trinity Rock & Pop syllabuses, whilst catering for individuals own interests in music. Outside of teaching, James is a versatile guitarist specialising in both electric and acoustic guitar and with a broad taste in music, is adept in a wide range of playing styles and genres, including: Rock, Blues, Pop, Disco, Funk, Soul, R&B, Folk, musical theatre etc. James works as a session musician, with a number of different function bands and with an originals folk band has released 2 studio albums, toured across the UK and played at many of the leading UK folk festivals. James thoroughly enjoys sharing his passion for music through teaching, whilst supporting students in their instrument progression and on their musical journey.
