Guildhall alumni among the winners at the Primetime Emmy Awards 2021

Congratulations to the Guildhall alumni who were among the winners and nominees at the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards.

Acting alumna Michaela Coel (Acting 2012) won the Emmy for outstanding writing for a limited series for her consent I May Destroy You. Michaela wrote, produced and directed the limited series, which also featured alumnus Paapa Essiedu (Acting 2012) who was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role as Kwame.

Alumnus Ewan McGregor (Acting 1992) won his first Emmy for his role in the Netflix show Halston. Ewan won the lead actor in a limited series for his role, which is based on the life of designer Halston.

The Crown took home 11 Emmys — including Outstanding Drama. Series four of The Crown featured alumni Marion Bailey (Acting 1973) as The Queen Mother, Eva Feiler (Acting 2013) as the Young Margaret Thatcher and Freddie Fox (Acting 2010) as her son, Mark Thatcher.  Charles Edwards (Acting 1992) featured as Martin Charteris, Al Barclay (Acting 2002) as Michael Howard, Richard Goulding (Acting 2007) as Edward Adeane, Sam Phillips (Acting 2007), as the Queen's equerry, Paul Jesson (Acting 1970) as Sir Geoffrey Howe and Tony Jayawardena (Acting 2003) as Sir Sonny Ramphal. 

Ted Lasso, which features alumnus Toheeb Jimoh (Acting 2018) as Sam Obisanya, won seven Emmys - including Outstanding Comedy Series.
