The School has achieved Gold for a second time in both Student Experience and Student Outcomes.
We are delighted to announce that Guildhall School has been awarded an overall rating of Gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) 2023, a key indicator of teaching quality on undergraduate programmes across UK universities.
The School received Gold (outstanding) in the two sub-categories, or ‘aspects’, assessed in the exercise: the Student Experience and Student Outcomes.
On Student Experience, TEF noted about Guildhall: ‘There is compelling evidence of outstanding course content and delivery, and outstanding student engagement in learning and stretch, leading to an excellent student experience.’ On Student Outcomes it said: ‘the provider deploys and tailors approaches that are highly effective in ensuring its students succeed in and progress beyond their studies.’
The Teaching Excellence Framework is a national scheme run by the Office for Students (OfS) that aims to encourage higher education providers to improve and deliver excellence in the areas that students care most about: teaching, learning and achieving positive outcomes from their studies.
Guildhall previously participated in the 2018 TEF exercise, at which point the OfS awarded the School a Gold rating.
Professor Jonathan Vaughan, Principal of Guildhall School, said: “We are immensely proud to have another Gold outcome in the TEF. This result, alongside our other recent achievements at the top of the 2024 Guardian University league table for Music, first in Arts, Drama and Music by the Complete University Guide 2024, great success in the Research Excellence Framework and our conferred ‘world-leading’ status from the Office for Students, all give external validation to the quality of our provision. The TEF particularly is a testament to the wonderful talent of our teaching team who are tirelessly committed to the wellbeing, training and professional development of our students.”
This new TEF rating will last for four years, from September 2023.
