Guildhall School alumni and honorary fellows recognised in King’s New Year Honours

Congratulations to the following alumni and honorary fellows who were recognised in the King’s New Year Honours List 2024.

Neil Constable FGS (Technical Theatre 1985) received an OBE for services to theatre, following his near fourteen-year tenure leading Shakespeare’s Globe, as well as an extensive career with institutions such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Almeida Theatre.  

Composer and Guildhall School honorary fellow Dame Judith Weir received a DBE for services to music. Dame Judith will be stepping down as the Master of the King's Music after 10 years in post and her work will feature in the Aldeburgh and Three Choirs Festivals later this year.

Gavin Reid (Trumpet 1991) was appointed Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order in recognition of his position as Music Advisor to the Honours of Scotland Service held in St Giles’ Cathedral in July last year, following the Coronation. Gavin is the Chief Executive of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, whose musicians performed alongside the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Scottish Ballet Orchestra at the historic event.

Margaret Archibald (Clarinet 1970) was awarded a BEM for services to music, as the founder of Everyone Matters, an organisation delivering music projects to schools and the wider community.
