In Conversation with Erol, Production Arts Student at Guildhall Young Artists King's Cross

It's been one year since Guildhall Young Artists (GYA) King's Cross opened — our music, drama and production arts centre for ages 5–18.

We caught up with Erol, who has been on the Production Arts Course since the beginning, to find out what the past year has been like and his hopes for the next year.

You’ve been part of the Production Arts Course at GYA King’s Cross since it opened last year. How has it been for you? Have there been any highlights?

It's been very fun and informative — my favourite part was the show we gave at Milton Court.

What made you want to attend GYA King’s Cross?

I've always been interested in the backstage parts of theatre and wanted to try it out.

Classes start from 9am on Saturdays during term time. How is that for you? Do you have far to travel?

It's only around one hour journey time for me so it's OK.

What’s the best thing about being at GYA King’s Cross?

The shows and learning about different areas in production arts.

Do you have any advice for anyone wanting to attend, but might be feeling a little bit nervous?

Just come anyway, worst that can happen is that you hate it and never come again!

It was King’s Cross first birthday on 24 September, so in the spirit of birthdays and making a wish, you have one wish for the next year. What would this be? This can be anything.

Have more shows and more specialised areas (e.g. I want to mainly focus on lighting).

Thank you Erol, it's been great to hear all about your experience. Find out more about the Production Arts Course at GYA King's Cross at gsmd.ac.uk/kings-cross/production-arts. New students welcome at anytime and free taster sessions available.
