Frances Angell

Biography

Frances Angell was born in Jamaica, where she studied the piano with concert pianist David Johns, who nurtured her love for collaborative performance.  Her subsequent specialisms in chamber music and accompaniment have seen Frances perform internationally in both Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall and Steinway Hall in New York, as well as in many European countries.  Frances has broadcast for several German radio stations, Swiss Radio DRS2 and NHK-TV in Japan as well as for the Proms Chamber Music, and recorded CDs for ASV and Lorelt.  Performances in the UK have included many music festivals and societies, and venues such as the Snape Maltings, Royal Exchange Manchester, Queens Hall Edinburgh, and London’s Kings Place, South Bank Centre and the Wigmore Hall. 

Frances followed her degree in music at Manchester University with postgraduate solo studies at the Royal College of Music with Niel Immelman, where she won the Oundjian Duo Prize and the Twentieth Century Piano Prize.  Scholarships supported subsequent solo studies at the Banff Centre, Canada, followed by ongoing chamber music studies with Menachem Pressler of the Beaux Arts Trio and with Andras Schiff, whose unique approaches to interpretation and the art of movement at the keyboard continue to inspire Frances’ musical activities.
