Biography

Robert is originally from Colchester in Essex and began playing Cornet in the local brass band. Robert then went on to study Trumpet at Trinity College of Music completing his degree with first class honours, winning the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble prize during his studies and then touring with the World Youth Orchestra as principal trumpet.  Robert was then awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music completing a Master in Arts, during this time Robert awarded the Worshipful Company of Musicians Brass Ensemble Prize.

Since finishing his studies Robert leads a busy freelance career performing with various orchestras such The London Sinfonietta, New London Orchestra, London Contemporary Orchestra and Docklands Sinfonia. Robert has also played as part of the ‘Thursford Christmas Spectacular’ Orchestra, the 'Les Miserables’ UK tour and on the UK tours with pop artists ‘Belle and Sebastian’, ‘Hawkwind’, ‘The Hoosiers’ and ‘Shed7’.

Some of the recording sessions Robert has been part of at Abbey Road, AIR and Angel studios include working with various artists such as: Katie Melua, Rick Wakeman, Susan Boyle, Deep Purple and with ‘Clean bandit’ for a Christmas special on - BBC 1’s live lounge session.

Robert is passionate about his commitment to education and teaching and along with teaching at Junior Guildhall also hold positions at Enfield Music Service as 'Head of Instrumental Tuition’ and as Brass Tutor at three independent schools in London.
