Biography
hat’s been your highlight during your time at Guildhall?
Although I’m on the Stage Management pathway, my highlight whilst studying at Guildhall so far must be working as a Costume Assistant on ‘Anna Karenina’. This was such an immense production with over 70 period costumes, and over 100 quick changes. Having the opportunity to work with the designer (Amy Jane Cook) to source, make, alter, and brake-down these fabulous costumes was such an exciting challenge for me. Having over 100 quick changes on this show meant I had an extremely busy show plot, which again, was an exciting feat. At some points, it probably looked like clothes were being frantically thrown out of the quick-change areas to complete a 12 second change!
What’s been your highlight in the industry?
Due to studying during the global pandemic, It has been exceedingly difficult for my year group to secure shadowing and work experience in the industry. This being said, I have been lucky enough to be able to secure a job as a Stage Management Dep at ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’. Being able to work on a huge West End musical, whilst still undertaking my course at Guildhall has been an amazing experience. It has opened my eyes to working professionally within the West End, whilst also helping me to consolidate what I have learnt at Guildhall. Having the opportunity to widen my circle or industry contacts, and friends has been invaluable for me.
What are you most interested in working in after you graduate?
I am most interested in working as a freelance Deputy Stage Manager and Show Caller. There is something that really excites me about being a part of the process from rehearsals, right through until closing night, and working in this position has always fulfilled my passions and enjoyment. This being said, I have a very open mind as to the areas of the industry that I’d see myself working in. Whilst I have a love for musicals, I am also passionate about opera, along with collaborative projects and productions that have a challenging and thought-provoking context. Whatever I do, my main interest is to be part of creating theatre that is meaningful, important, and collaborative.
