About Writing for Screen, Level 2

This new eight-week evening course focuses on writing for TV drama and the next steps after completing your first pilot script. The course will develop your writing skills and take your script to the next level by focusing on TV development, pitching to agents and production companies and getting your pilot script screen ready.

Who is the course for?
  • This course is ideal for people who have a first draft of a pilot script that they would like to develop throughout the course. 
  • This course is also suited to participants who attended Writing for Screen, Level 1 and want to take their pilot to the next level. 
  • There is no upper age limit on this course. We encourage and welcome participants from all ages 18 and over.
What can I expect?

You will explore the following topics:

  • Redrafting
  • Approaching productions companies
  • Demystifying agents
  • Writing for television under a showrunner
  • Writers rooms

You will also:

  • Receive feedback on your script from Emma Dennis-Edwards and other participants in your group in a supportive and safe environment 
  • Have your script read aloud by actors from Guildhall School 
  • Be encouraged to read your script in front of your group and hear from other participants 
  • Finish the course will have a polished pilot script, ready to share with agents and production companies 

Please note, the course will combine practical and theoretical elements with weekly homework encouraged.

Some professional writing software such as Final Draft, Adobe, Celtx, Art Studio etc.

Eligibility

  • For everyone aged 18+. There is no upper age limit on this course. We encourage and welcome participants from all ages 18 and over.
  • Participants must have sufficient English language skills to cope with course demands.

About the Course Tutor

The course is taught by Emma Dennis-Edwards

For TV, Emma's original single Consent aired on Channel 4 in February 2023, with the Evening Standard hailing it as 'a searing commentary that couldn't come at a more opportune moment.' Consent has been nominated for Broadcast Awards and RTS Awards, with Emma being nominated for Best Writer for Drama. 

Emma has also written on Champion (Candice Carty-Williams' show for BBC/New Pictures) and has written an episode of Daniel Lawrence Taylor's show Boarders for BBC, as well as being in the writers' room for series 2. Alongside her episodic writing Emma has original projects in development with The Forge, Firebird and Studio Lambert. She was part of the BBC Writers Academy with John Yorke and wrote episodes of Eastenders, Casualty and Holby City.
