Diversity Inaction

Diversifying production arts staffing in drama schools and conservatoires

Presented by Guildhall School of Music & Drama in partnership with EDJI Arts

Diversity and inclusion in the higher education sector has been discussed for a while now.

But what is actually happening, and how can we keep things moving?

When it comes to the diversification of staff in drama school and conservatoire production arts departments, there is still work to do.

Join us at Guildhall School of Music & Drama for an afternoon of sharing, learning and meaningful networking as we examine barriers to change – and more importantly, the processes we must embed to overcome them.

Guest speakers include Kenneth Olumuyiwa Tharp CBE, dance artist and former CEO of The Place; EDI trainer and consultant Rey Dosaj, founder of EDJI Arts; and Jamie Beddard, actor and Co-Artistic Director at Extraordinary Bodies and Diverse City.

Through panel discussions and breakout sessions, we will explore:

  • How inclusive organisations not only foster belonging but turbocharge creativity
  • Unconscious biases and stereotypes that negatively impact decision-making and an organisation's reputation
  • The importance of unique perspectives and cultural diversity
  • How to purposefully diversify recruitment and retention
  • How we can work together as a sector to make progress

The day will culminate in networking over refreshments, with creative practitioners and drama school staff having the chance to meet, mingle and discuss future potential collaborations.

Let’s take action together – book your free place today.

This event is for industry practitioners who are thinking of teaching or working as a member of creative teams in drama schools, and for drama school colleagues who are involved in employing industry practitioners and/or teaching staff. We aim to facilitate representation from across the drama school sector in the London region; the event is open to all, although we are particularly addressing London for purposes of focus and accessibility.
