Guildhall's third-year undergraduate singers present a reduced version of Handel's Giulio Cesare with piano accompaniment in this Introduction to Opera studio production.

Handel's most famous and successful opera tells the story of Julius Caesar's adventures conquering his enemies in Egypt while falling in love with its Queen, the legendary Cleopatra.

Each year, the BMus 3 singers, with support from some postgraduate singers, study, rehearse and perform a reduced version of an opera. This project is designed to broaden their knowledge of the wide-ranging skills needed in the modern opera industry. Generally the students have their first taste of playing a role in a rehearsal scenario that is run as a professional opera company. The opera is always double-cast with many of the singers learning two roles to perform.

The first performance of this project takes place on Monday 22 May with a different cast.

Free, no tickets required

Approximate running time: 90 minutes. Sung in Italian with surtitles.
