Event information

The London Schools Symphony Orchestra (LSSO) takes to the stage of Bradshaw Hall at Birmingham Conservatoire for a programme of highly expressive music inspired by scenes and poems.

Lili Boulanger’s impressionistic sound picture of a Spring morning welcomes in Eric Whitacre’s Equus – conducted by Bradley Wilson in his last concert as Conductor in Residence with the LSSO in association with Black Lives in Music – with its soaring melodies punching through the American composer’s dynamic minimalist portrait of horses. Mythical evocation comes in the form of the Water Goblin in one of Dvořák’s much-loved late tone poems. The concert ends with Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in Ravel’s popular orchestrated version.

The LSSO introduces young musicians to the challenges and delights of playing in a large symphony orchestra, reflecting the impact and importance of access to high quality music education in the capital. Join them as they come together to share their love of music.

LSSO Summer Tour

This concert is part of the London Schools Symphony Orchestra's summer tour, with other performances of the same programme taking place in Oxford and Cambridge. The tour will culminate with a performance in Barbican Hall on Wednesday 13 September.
