The Creative Practitioner: Artists as Makers in Society: What role can higher education play in educating and supporting socially engaged arts practitioners?

Current students, alumni, teachers, and anyone interested in socially engaged arts courses are welcome to join this discussion.

Guildhall School alumni Detta Danford, Maedb Joy, Pia Scattergood, George Thorby and Natasha Zielazinski will be sharing their experiences of their socially engaged education and careers.

This panel discussion will reflect on the relevance of ‘artists as citizens’ within the context of specialist arts training and consider whether graduates are able, ready, and even willing to work as performers, producers, and creative collaborators in a range of cultural, educational, healthcare, and social justice settings. What role can higher education play in educating and supporting socially engaged arts practitioners and to what extent are conservatoire students and teachers responding creatively and responsibly to the diverse challenges of a world in constant flux?

This is a Guildhall De-Centre event organised as part of Making It festival
