Specialist Area: Stage Management

What's been your highlight during your time at Guildhall?

Working alongside my cohort as undoubtedly been a highlight during my time at Guildhall as well as having the opportunity to create shows with companies such as Little Angel Theatre and Centre De Creation. These opportunities have allowed me to learn about a wider range of theatre and performance such as puppetry and circus- I had never been able to work on shows like this before.

What other passions and projects have you enjoyed exploring during your time at Guildhall?

Outside of the projects I’ve worked on during the course, I really enjoyed working on an R&D with Auricle, which focussed on binaural sound and projection- it was unlike any other show that I have worked on before and I was incredibly fortunate to have been able to collaborate and connect with a number of industry professionals through this show. My research project focussed on a feminist view of stage management as well as the importance of the pastoral side of the job, both of which I am very keen to continue to explore in my work.

What's something you've learned that you feel will help you when you graduate?

Due to the close knit cohort the course creates, I have learned how to listen, trust and communicate more efficiently during an intense production period as well as how to collaborate using a growing variety of skills. The diversity of the briefs we were given through the year meant that I had to learn how to quickly adapt to new projects and to creatively problem solve when challenges arose.

What area are you most interested in working in after you graduate?

I hope to continue to work in stage management once I graduate, I would love to work more in touring theatre as well as being able to facilitate work that focuses on current social and political topics. I also hope to learn more about producing and perhaps explore the idea of working in producing in the future.
